BBB16 boot issue
OK, this is a weird one.....
I am having an issue with getting a BBB to boot while inserted into the BBB16 cape (Scott Hanson board).
I built the board a few months ago and loaded an FPP image and it booted fine and ran the setup.
I did not go back to the board as life got in the way....
Now, when I power the BBB16 all I get is the Blue LED for PWR, no activity LEDs.
If I remove the BBB and boot using a USB cable it comes up fine and I can connect to it.
I re-imaged the SDcard several times, tried 3 new cards and same result. There were a couple of instances where it booted while inserted in the cape but now it will not.
While outside the cape, it boots fine each time.
I know the issue is with the cape itself, but I am not sure where to go.
I have re-soldered all the connector pins for the BBB but same.
Maybe a timing issue with the boot sequence? The reason I say that is because I was able to get it to boot while in the cape several times.

Re: BBB16 boot issue
Inspect the board for solder bridges and cold joints.

Re: BBB16 boot issue
That was my 1st instinct and I went over the board with a fine tooth comb and re-soldered everything that was suspect.
I was hoping someone may have seen this issue on a PB or BBB16 or even one of Dan's boards and had something to add.
It would be nice to narrow down the search.
It could be a bad component but I am unsure where to go from here.

Re: BBB16 boot issue
Have you checked voltage on the BBB pins to see if it is receiving the proper voltage. Seems like I had a Zener diode go bad (or more likely, I fried it) on a PB board.
I just cant remember the details of what or why, but it may have been it would not boot.

Also check voltage regulator to see if its getting hot. If powering with 12v and the regulator is under sized it will heat up fast and shut the BBB down.
Ask me how I know, LOL!

Re: BBB16 boot issue
LOL......I am powering the board with 5V and regulator seems fine.
I will have to check the BBB itself, but it is weird that the PWR LED always comes on.
This seems purely a boot issue. I even went so far as to copy FPP to the eMMC in case it was trying to boot from there instead of the sdcard.
Outside the cape it boots just fine.
I'll meter the pins of the BBB and see what I find....
