    Default My 3D RGB stars

Ok this is my version of the 3D star inspired by Mikeh65's.

First 2 Inners stars completed - 2 more to go.

I am using 10x3mm Rydal. This will give a good surface to stick the RGB Strip.
I cut the steel at 108 degrees using some bolt cutters.

To speed up the assembly, I made a simple jig to weld the pointers.

The Controller will require 4x 3 Channels. I am using my 8ch RGB dimmers to drive 2 stars.

As usual so I don't clutter DIYC.com - full details can be seen here.

I don't think so. I needn't on my spinners, and they were great.

Very nice Matt! Please don't consider details of construction "clutter". It's why most of us are here. As always you help drive our hobby in new directions. Using flat stock makes much more sense. I like the idea of controllers at the element. Might cost a little more but makes setup and changing layout easier. Thank you!

new job & a bit of travel has prevented their progress. Total of 2 x 3d stars are made. I just need to do final assembly.
Hoping I can return to them on the weekend.

Awesome. I'm getting to the point where I can see some of these intriguing displays in action in my mind.

Did some more welding today and finished the two stars.

First a mock up to see if 45mm spacing suited.
    starmokchup.jpg

I had been umming and ahhing over how to join the 4 stars and eventually settled for 3.2mm wire.
    starweldednobox.jpg

Finally added 3 more sections to hould the controller box.

    Next up painting time.

Very nice looking 3D Stars. What type of lights are you going to use on them.
