I picked up 8 strands of 70ct orange LEDs on close out and two strands of 100ct purple on clearance last year.
Of course I needed to do something with them for Halloween.

First it was going to be a huge spider web(6ft) with maybe some spiders on it somehow.

Then it changed into a giant(8ft) singing spider, still hanging from the roof somehow.

Now the final design is a super daddy long legs, of course he will sing, eventually.
The legs will be 5ft long and wrapped with 35 orange LEDs.
The body will be 3ft wide and 5 ft long, wrapped with the purple LEDs.

There is no way I am going to commit that much rebar to the grinder and bender without having at least some idea of what it is going to look like.
The model has a 12 inch leg span. That means the real thing will have a 12 FOOT leg span.

The last is a estimate of the final size, I think is a little small
Should not take too long to crank out.

I see one flaw. There are only 4 legs. 8)
Looks great though. I am thinking of playing with some paper mache and making some giant things for halloween. I have ordered a usb and pci sound card along with a 32 input trigger board. I plan on doing some audio testing and using triggers for halloween.

I have been there and he does have some outrageous stuff I could never dream of comparing too. Thanks for the heads up though, it is a great site.

The thread title has me thinking mega tree with the bottem ring about 2/3 the way up with only 8 strings on it for legs, so the legs droop to the ring then to the ground, and a big ball body in the topper. REALLY BIG spider with REALLY Lonnnng legs. Brian ;-)

Not really that big at all once you yank all his legs off.

It is only the body that does not totally collapse and now that I think about that, that may change.
I forgot my own first rule.
In the dark, all depth perception goes away and all the light blends together.
Things do not have to be round to appear round.

His eyes are of course a Rubbermaid serv n store container, a disk of ceiling diffuser panel, 8 spare red and orange led bulbs in red-orange pairs, and 4 red 5 chip leds, all driven individually. Eight chanels per eye.

My latest plan is to add 4 segments of rope light for fangs moving his victim toward his mouth.

Sometimes he looks like a grass hopper and sometimes he looks like a frog.
