    Default Alternating colors

i have 12 trees. 2 on same string, one has 45 pixels, other has 55 (5 of those are the star for each).

When i apply the alternating effect to change colors, it seems to only have pixel level (assuming this means pixel count) option. Meaning my trees change color part way up on some. is there a way to make the whole tree alternate between colors? the effect depth only gave me choice of 0 or 1, which did not seem to change much.

what do your element groups look like for the trees? I'd expect you to have a group containing all the trees, and then each tree is a group containing it's pixels. In that case you should see 3 levels in the group depth parameter. So if you don't have that option, your groupings may not be set up right.

I will check that Monday. Need to upgrade my home version and bring home updated setup from work machine.

I know I have groups; spiral pixel trees, tree bodies and tree stars

And to be clear: The levels have NOTHING to do with pixels counts. As John said, the depth option describes the depth of the hierarchy you have defined below the level at which you are applying the effect.

    spiral setup.JPG

i added alternating effect at Spiral_Pixel_tree level. Correction, there are choices of 0,1,2,3 now? I played with the effect some or i was blind when i looked before. 0-2 make all the trees alternate together. 3 gives me partial color trees alternating.

Moving to tree bodies level didn't change much.

I think one thing that's throwing things off for you is that you have subgroups for the trees and their stars within the same folder. With the configuration you currently have, it will end up flattening the group to be body, star, body, star. One level up from that and you'll get tree1, tree2, etc... with the star and body together within each group. If you want to alternate the bodies without the stars, you'd need the stars in a separate group from the bodies. That's how I have my trees done.

i think i got it worked out. Im trying to get my element list short in the sequence window without needing to scroll through 100 elements.

When i applied the alternating to the group of tree bodies i thought it wasn't working because the default only has 2 colors, and I was expecting 4 colors, so it alternated half trees on color, half the other. Applying new alternating just to the tree bodies, adding the other 2 colors, it is working now.

Thanks for your help - as usual!
