I'm guessing your Renards are OK. Did you install jumper shunt JP2?
"120 ohm termination resistor enable. Normally a shunt will be installed on JP2 when receiving RS485 data. Remove the shunt if you are experiencing problems with incoming data."
I think you did something like this... you can connect USB to Serial db25 to Box 1 (install jumper shunt JP1). Then connect J1 on that box to J2 on Box 2 (install jumper shunt JP2). That should work for all 48 channels. If not check your settings in Vixen. When that's working replace the Serial db25 cable with USB to RS485 Adapter/Cable (note it's not ethernet that goes into J1 & J2... same cable but different protocol - RS485). If that doesn't work it's probably the adapter you are using (you might need special USB drivers for the adapter) or something related to that
I'm not sure how much this helps but I can say that with all my Renard SS's I have never had a problem with the data passing from box to box unless I got J1 and J2 reversed and never had to replace any of the RS485 driver IC's.
