Thread: TA-200 leaking water

    Default TA-200 leaking water

I have a TA-200 that seems to be letting water inside it from the top. I had a channel stick on the other day in the rain and it happened again yesterday in the rain. When i opened it up this morning i have pools of water seating on top on my heatsink and some seating in the bottom of the box too. The TA-200 lookis fine i don't seem any cracks or anything else and the box is mounted straight up and down like it should be. I have 15 others mounted the same way and now of them are taking on water???? Any ideas what or how the water would be getting in the SSR???

Is it traveling through the Ethernet cable?

I do not think so the water is on top of the heatsink at the box and the ethernet cable is at the bottom of the box and going out of the box via a side entry rj45 jack. I think its coming in between the 2 halfs of the box now that i have pulled it and worked on it on the bench. I put a spacer in between the bottom case mounting screw and the surface its mounted on in hopes that it will cause the water to drain off the top before it gets deep enough to run in the seem of the box.

Could the water have gotten inside when you lifted the lid to open the box?
(if you have a spare box.. swap it.. )

use this stuff man. i have been rolling it like a snake and making my own seals for all my boxes. when you close it, it smashes and makes a great seal. awesome part is, its removeable, wont freeze, crack or anything. cheap too. can get at menards, lowes, hd for like 2 bucks for a 1lb brick. i also put where my connectors come out from the inside and out to seal it even more. molds like sticky tack and holds good.

Well these are mass produced plastic molds and you clearly have one that has some slack in the mgf tolerances. However, these are NOT designed to be waterproof as you are aware. Rope caulk has been used very successfully in sealing these better.

One warning about "sealing them". If you make them airtight, they will condense, and you will have the same issue. They must have airflow.

Which way was the wind when you had leaking?

They are designed to go against a house so the only direct wind would be from the front and sides.

I wasn't paying attention. Are any of the enclosures (CG-1500, CG-2000, ?) waterproof? I'm using these on a stake in the yard, not against the house. No problems yet, and we don't typically get heavy rain in sunny CA, so I may be OK. (We typically don't get 50+ MPH winds, either...)

I am not sure, so I place a small plastic trash can bag over each of my CG-1000 boxes. I twist them at bottom, but leave breathing access. Haven' t had an issue yet with water getting inside. Also hides them from the public.
