Sequence works while Display Testing but not otherwise

Currently, all my uploaded sequences display correctly when I play them directly from xLights and when using the Display Testing sequence tester. However, when I play the same sequences through a Scheduler or even just the File Manager, they don't display correctly.

The most obvious sign that something is wrong is one strand of my megatree always lights up blue, all the time, no matter the sequence - even a test sequence that turns only one prop on and the megatree is supposed to be dark. This doesn't happen when I play through xLights or the Display Testing sequence player.

Can someone explain what is going wrong? I haven't told FPP to play anything on the side, so I don't know why it would be doing this.

1) Not sure about your terminology, so I have to ask a potentially dumb question. When you go to the FPP Display test page and tell it to cycle through the colors, what comes out on the display?

2) please post a screenshot of the FPP output configuration.

Which version of FPP are you using? The only thing I can think is that possibly it has something to do with your output settings in the fpp? Since you mention the strand lighting blue only when running sequences through fpp, almost sounds like channels are not lined up the same as in xlights. Maybe make sure universes are mapped the same in fpp as in xlights, make sure channel start and number of channels in each universe is correct. I would use the fpp display testing and check in bunches of channels for the blue strand you mention - run a test on just those channels in that strand and see if you get what you expect; if it doesn’t do what you expect then that should help point to the problem.

This sounds to me like file names that are close to identical to each other. What I do is blow away the sequences that are on the controller. Then if I redo FPP Connect and it shows up again, then I know that is the right one. .But every time I have done that, the sequence always works as expected es after that.

1) On the FPP Display Test page, all strings/nodes light up as expected. AND when I use the FPP Display Test Sequence tab, all sequences display correctly. But when I play the sequence in FPP from, say, the File Manager, I get the odd result. That's the crazy thing to me - FPP is playing the same file in two different ways.

2) I'll try to upload something later when I get home from work.

Thanks for the feedback.

If the lights come on as expected, then you are most likely looking at a patching issue. For each prop that is not working, look at its start address in xLights. Look at where is has been mapped in the fseq file (which is channel based) and then look at the FPP output selection on the output config screen to be sure the desired channels are in the correct spot.

Found the problem - I had a Command Preset set. Somehow - I don't remember making one. Once I deleted them, all worked as it was supposed to.

From the File Manager, technically a Playlist is started and that kicks in the Command Preset. From the Display Tester, such a playlist isn't started, hence the difference.
