Default What does your username signify?

I am always curious as to why people choose the usernames they do. Was it something to do with your real name, a hobby, a loved one, a memory from years past, a favorite car, etc...

My username, Macrosill, has no special meaning. I used to use a Yahoo email address with my last name in it. Having a very unique last name, only 2 families in the entire country with it, mine and my uncles, I decided it was time to change it. That along with getting love letter from my cousins fiance because he would always forget to add her 1st initial to the email address. I started to come up with some cool names but they were all taken. After a few hours of trying different names I became bummed as I thought I would never get a new address. I came up with, and punched in, Macrosill and it was available. It just entered my brain, no reason why. I guess the created juices started to flow, finally. Since that day 5 or 6 years ago, maybe more, I have been known as Macrosill all over the internet.

Tonypgst has become a common username for me on the many forums I've participated in. Which depends on what hobby I've actively involved in at the time, or as my wife puts it, which flavor of the month I have. Here is the breakdown:

Tony - My first name
P - First letter of my last name
GST - Grand Sport Turbo taken from a car I used to tinker with and race on the weekends before I started a family.

Thus, tonypgst. I'm just used to it, even though it no longer has the same meaning that it used to.

My username is simply my last name. I choose it since it is fairly unique, and more importantly because I can remember it easily. I use it almost everywhere, except for the few places my sister beat me to it. Luckily, she is married now and doesn't use it for anything new anymore.

As a side note, this thread under the Group Buys seems odd.

KMC123
KMC = Kevin Michael Cook
123 = Kinda rhymes with KMC

I had almost the same situation as Brian - I tried MANY combos years ago, and that one worked, and it is now my preferred username when joining new places.

I have had quite a few places that already had someone using that one, and I've had to make variations - It's not as unique as I'd like it...

Ever since I was a kid I have been a "tinkerer." I used to always take things apart to figure out how they work. Thanks to Heathkit, I discovered electronics at an early age. I used to make all kinds of circuits that I found in magazines and books. So, after a while, I had quite a collection of "gizmos" that I had made, so some of my friends gave me the nickname "gizmo."

I have used gizmo on several forums, but when I registered here, it was already taken. I was a bit tired at the time and couldn't think of any other name to use, so I just reversed the letters. I know, kind of stupid, but that's how I came up with it.

Mine is somewhat coded but self explanatory why I picked it when it becomes known.

Whoops! All fixed now. That's what I get for using the touchpad on my laptop, instead of a real mouse.

I got my nickname back in high school when I would hang out with a group of hackers that called themselves the Servants Of Babushka (SOB) (Babushka was this pink puppet on some Saturday morning show for some christian show that looked like a cheap knock off of Prarie Dawn from Sesame Street). I was the "go for" of the bunch (Go for this, go for that). I never dabbled into the hacking aspect of it all and was just content playing video games (Another World, Dune2, Prince of Persia) while they did whatever it is they did. In my Sophmore year in high school I was dubbed "Penfold" after the little sidekick gopher to Dangermouse, and being that I wear glasses it sealed it.

I'm with Deplanche in choosing something easy to remember.

I was "assigned" rlilly as an email address prefix eons ago when the company I was with at that time first started up with email. It's my first initial and last name.

Now, if I could just remember all those *&%$ passwords ....
