Oh boy, don't I know THAT!

I usually bring the laptop with me, and will typically spring for 1 card/session/whatever. On my last cruise, it was relatively cheap: $20 for 60 mins .

The kindle is great for reading, the screen just looks like reading from a book even in the sun. But i would get a case for it as it only took one drop from waist high and land on the corner for the screen to break. Amazon were good enough to replace it

We've had kindle's here since last October (gen2) and really enjoyed them...most recently I picked up a couple of Ipads and have been using the kindle app on it...

I find myself using the Ipad more right now, since it's handy...but battery life is not nearly as good (daily recharge needed), and I think the eInk is much easier on the eyes during the day (the backlight on the ipad is great at night though)

One think I like about amazon is that my ebooks transferred from my kindle to the ipad kindle app automatically, including bookmarks and last page read, etc...and with whispersync they stay synced up...

Ultimately I'll probably sell the kindles, but we'll see....

I have had one for over a year..the 2nd gen ones. I love my kindle..the battery, the e-Ink screen and the position of the page buttons.

However, I now have firm hate for book publishers. They live in a land where they pay a printer large sums of money to print a heavy book...then pay fuel and transport to get it to a bookstore where they sell it for $7.99. If I want the Kindle version...they WANT EVEN MORE!! No shipping...no printing....no hassle. It is clear that book publishers are clueless.

Unfortunately, this is the same cluelessness that the MafiRIAA and the MafiMPAA exhibited. Sure, you need to pay the author. IMHO, you should pay him well. But if the paper version is $X, then an electronic version should be < X.

I ended up pre-ordering a Wifi only Kindle. I then went ahead and downloaded Kindle for PC and purchased a few books (mostly free ones). I do have to admit I paid $.99 for a guilty pleasure set of books

I know nothing about the Nook, but I can certainly give the Kindle a lot of praise. It's great!

(cross posted at PC as well)

FYI...

I don't usually go in for extended warranties. Typically, they are over priced and you never get a chance to use them. However, this deal was too good to pass up for my new Kindle since it also includes accidental damage coverage. Being a man, the room where I do most of my reading has hard porcelain tiles. 1 drop and I can see the whole thing shattering.... For about $20 for 3 years of coverage, this was a steal:

Note that this was for a Wifi only Kindle. The 3G+Wifi is a bit more, and you'll have to search for that yourself.

1 - Google for 'Squaretrade Kindle Warranty'.
2 - Go to the first link that is NOT sponsored (it reads: ereader | SquareTrade Warranties).
3 - Change the length of time from 2 years to 3 years. Note the price is $29.99 and includes accidental damage. If you used that first link (the sponsored one), the price is $39.99.
4 - Hit the big 'Buy this Warranty' button.
5 - Now, use the coupon code 35SAVE and hit the 'Apply Coupon' button. Note that the price is reduced by $10.50 to $19.49
6 - Put in your info and hit the BUY button.

Enjoy your *3* (not 2) years of coverage + accidental damage.

FYI: The 35SAVE coupon should work on any SquareTrade warranty.

The toy arrived today, and I have to say I like it.

Even at less than 9oz, its heavier than I expected. I was worried about the screen size (thinking I should have ordered the bigger DX), but it's actually perfect.

The display is weird (in a good way). It's sitting in my reading room right now, atop 'the fixture'. When I walked in there earlier, I had completely forgot about it. Sure enough it tricked me into thinking it was real paper. You go looking at it expecting what you see on a laptop/LCD/whatever, and it looks nothing like that. There is no flicker or display artifacts to be found. It is very easy on the eyes.

4 out of 5. I think I'll see if my father likes it, and if so get him one for xmas.
