jcarney: both receiving and transmitting. The voltage is rock-solid stable yet it's not working anywhere near as consistently as the original part, which needs no external caps.

chilloutdocdoc: thanks for the tip, but there is no A/C coming into it. The Ren-W pirates 5vdc from the controller and steps it down to 3.3v for the XBee radio.

oops... lol that's what ig et for not knowing the details, still check the AC just to double check and make sure it doesn't show any oscillation?

Any options on a replacement for this Mouser part '647-UVR1C101MDD' it is the 100uf capacitor. They are backordered until 11/30. Thanks

No magic in that cap -- anything in the 100-200uf at 10v or higher range is fine as long as it's physically not too big and won't fit on the board. It's only there to help smooth out current and provide for a little buffer if the XBee or the controller suddenly needs to draw a little more power. Since Ren-W pirates power from the controller, having a little buffer there is just a bit of a safety thing so the Ren-W's voltage regulator has something to work with.

I've got a couple hundred of them -- PM your address and I can send you some if you like.

That's what I figured but still being fairly new at all this I wanted to double check. Thanks for the offer but I am placing my mouser order for the rest of it right now so I will get it there. Thanks for the quick response.

Dave would the 647-UFW1C101MDD be a suitable substitute for the 647-UVR1C101MDD?

I'm sure that would be just fine. Sometimes when a computer goes dead, or a VCR, TV, DVD player, etc. it's not worth trying to fix them -- you just buy a new one. However, a lot of those components have a lot of good parts on the boards and I've taken lots of high-quality caps, resistor networks, and other "stuff" off them and reused them later. It's amazing how popular 100uf caps are...

Thanks Dave. Yea, I noticed that too.

Also it looks like SparkFun is cheaper than RobotShop on the USB Explorer board when you include shipping if that is all that is being purchased. (RobotShop adds a $3 charge to any order under $30 aswell)

Does anyone have any pics of the 538-16-02-0102 Headers & Wire Housings 22-24 TERMINAL BULK FEMALE in use? It is hard to visualize how these are used from the sketch.
