Why not just hook up the ren 24 to the serial port and the daisy chain the ren-c on to the Ren 24. You can run 256 channels on one serial port.

I have to agree with cobraman44, why do you want to run each controller off of it's own port? I think the solution you are looking for is called "Daisy Chaining".

They should work fine together depending on which version of the Ren24 you have, The ZC signal from the Ren-C would be ignored. Actually if you had the Ren 24 version 3.0 or higher inline before the Ren-C then it would pass down ZC and power according to the wiki but I am not sure which pin the power would be on.

Just to clarify, the Ren 24 3.0 or 3.3 will send ZC down the line, (I believe on Pin 3 with the ZC jumper on) but it will not power controllers downstream. It will pass thru power on pins 1,2, and 7,8, but does not create power for other boards.

Has anybody tried a card like this? It says it will output RS-485. Neither of my computers have com ports so right now I'm just using a USB adaptor for my laptop for my Renard.

I have not used this one in particular but the individual reviews would steer me away from this device.

One of the *approved* USB to RS485 adapters is a Hexin and currently sells for about $12 delivered. Use a powered USB hub and plug a bunch of them into the hub for a pretty easy and inexpensive way to quickly add capacity.

That looks much better, I'll have to look for one. Thanks
