    Default Olsen 595 Problem

I have used a single Olsen 595 board for 2 years now. It is a Brian Bresocnik board. It has worked fine before. This year I have hooked it up to the same computer and another one as well. The problem is that I can't use the test to turn on each channel or all channels. If I run my sequence the status LED's come on but they are very dim. No SSR's turn on either. I have checked my 5V supply and I have 5.7 volts (from an old computer power supply) My supply ground is grounded to the parallel port pin 25. I have double checked the parallel port settings and it is still set on EPP and 378h. Does anybody have any suggestions what could be wrong?

What are you powering the board with? Almost sounds like the board isn't getting enough juice -- or the power connector is dirty/corroded. If it's all the channels, I'd suspect something bigger than just the parallel signal.

Try connecting both power supply grounds together.

Hey you know what. It helps when the 5V power supply is plugged into the P1 connector rather than the P2 connector! Works great now.

Just a note..... it is a good idea to use more than one of the ground pins on the DB25. I tied all of them together myself (18-25)

Back with another problem. Just hooked my Olsen 595, I have power but no blinky on the leds. What is strange is thay when i unhook the (+) wire and leave the (-) attached and with my cable plugged in the power light actually starts flashing to my sequence I am running. I have done the trouble shoot and checked all of the sockets. Everything looked fine but still no blinking leds (Exceot for the power light). Any ideas.

Is that white stuff corrosion inside the backs of the input/output RJ45 jacks? If so, that could very well be your problem.

If the power light is flickering to your sequence, I'd check the cable, too. That's not supposed to happen. You could have the wrong pins selected on the DB25 side going to the wrong pins in the RJ45.
