Will this antenna work

I found this in my work van yesterday, I know no way of telling till it is hooked up It should work?

Hard to tell from a picture. Looks to be a dipole antenna of some sort. How long are the elements? I would also use a meter to check wich element is driven (thats the one you want pointing up) and make sure there are no shorts in it.

from tip to tip it is about 7ft but adjustable

If it is adjustable then it should work. You would just have to adjust the length of the elements to your frequency. You might want to check what kind of cable they used inside (if you can). If they used 75 ohm cable and you feed it with 50 ohm you would have a mismatch. At the power levels most here run it won't be a huge deal, but if you trying to get every bit of range out of it then it may be worth taking a look at..

just did some checking element length for 98 mhz (center frequency of FM band) would be 28.65 inches for each element.
