Thread: USB to DMX dongle - Enttec Pro compatible

    Well,
for what it's worth, I'm taking a shot at putting the serial respond message inside the asm firmware that is released now. We'll see how it goes. I've looked at the code already, but I need to make some strategic decisions on where to implement the TX procedure. I might have to check that with RPM first, before writing any code.

    You are all awesome!
I have been wanting to do something like this but haven't found the time..

So I want to start getting some hardware together to push me in the right direction..

    My questions are
    * Could I get the latest Eagle files? Would like to make a board and start playing.
    * Where did you get your pixel strings from?

Im sorry in advance if I missed a post with the answers (I did do a search and looked at the last 5 pages..)
I would like to start working to the goal of having wireless DMX (Transmitter to many receivers - Please don't tell me that this has already been done here :p )
I live in Australia so it might be cheeper for me to source my own parts.

    Thanks in advance

This is something I've been meaning to add to the firmware but got busy with other concurrent projects.

I hope to be caught up in the next few months and I'll get back to this project.

mrpackethead claimed last year that he was within a week of releasing alternative firmware written in C that implemented this message, but nothing ever materialized. Unfortunately, ASM is over my head otherwise I'd add it to RPM's firmware.

Hi, Daniel! Welcome to DIYC. Yes, with the current firmware the blinking light shows DMX data is being output as soon as power is applied. On startup it's just 512 channels of zero, but, as presently programmed, this unit continues to transmit the last data it was sent as long as power is applied. This should change as new features are added to the USB-DMX Dongle, but right now Vixen doesn't need anything else.

I'm not familiar with your specific hardware, but if you haven't, please check the DIYC Wiki for standard connections to DMX devices.

For those who own the dongle and a programmer, can any of you try this attached asm file ?
It should still work the same way as the 1.05 asm file, but I inserted the basics for sending the registration code back to the pc already. I just need to insert the TX part, but I've made all the necesary changes in the asm code to have a registration detection.
Things to test: is it still responding in the same way as it used to before uploading my firmware ?
Is the dongle still fast enough with the dmx timings ?
I would test it myself, but I need to dig into my pile of electronics stuff to find my programmer.

I would be happy to give this a try but I need some help first. I have the Atmel AVR USB programmer HARWARE (it was a hand-me-down that I picked up), but I do not have the software to run it yet. Any advise on what would be cheap (or free) to be able to use it?? THX

Search for AVRdude or just AVR programmer. I'm sure you'll find something like that that will work. It's getting both the firmware and the right fuses on the chip set correctly that are required for programming.

I bought the AVR programmer from Lady Ada at adafruit.com and have used it successfully to burn quite a few AVR chips.

Hmmm, I use Win7 so a Unix or Linux version would not be very useful. I did manage to get a download of AVR Studio 5 Beta from Atmel, will that compile and program the ASM file?? Sorry to be such a newbie at AVR programming, I've done most of my stuff with PICs.

That should probably work - - I just used Studio 4 to build n1ist's Color Stick firmware that RPM enhanced for the ATMega48P - worked like a champ and recognized my off-brand programmer as well.
