Default Mapping of matrix with sticks

In this video the drone guy has added a field of pixel sticks as to what appears to be 8 pixels per stick. If I wanted to create something like this would I use a matrix map or something else?

A lot of people call that a "pixel forest". "That guy" is Tom BetGeorge, probably the best sequencer and lights guy you can find, anywhere. Gosh knows that he gets to play with some very advanced props/lights/drones/etc.

I suggest you search for "pixel forest" to see the different ways people have implemented these. You may also want to search for "Peace Stakes" after David Peace. I'm not saying he was the inventor of them, but they do carry his name. He did a video a while back as to how he did his home using these.

David Peace did a tutorial on how to program the Pixel Sticks using multiple layers and groups. I used a different method with I created my 100 pixel stick display. You can treat each stick as a mini vertical leaping arch and program them as a group. Using different camera angles and then sine wave effect to get "the wave" effect.

Thanks for the replies. I found that Peace video. It was done with x-lights but I think Vixen can still do it with layering in a custom model. The hoop programing sounds promising. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MezJiXe9bSI

Was thinking if I could use an adobe program and divide an animated gif into 5 layers and then assign a layer to a corresponding pixel group of each stake, would it play in 3-D?

    TomsLED,

I am working on something similar and was curios about using the Icicle Model in Vixen 3 to map the instead of creating a custom prop. Does anyone know if the Vixen Icicle Model assumes the physical wiring is like the attached diagram? When toying with it in the configure preview, that appears to be the case, but wanted to verify.
