    Default Renard 64XC Schematic Error

    Good Day.

I have been debugging an issue with a Ren64xc that went bad. As I was tracing the input stage, I found a discrepancy between the schematic and the physical board. The board layout in the wiki IS accurate W.R.T. the physical board. Having the wrong schematic did cost me some time finding the actual fault. I would like to add the following note to the Wiki page (but I do not have permission to edit):

NOTE: Schematic / Board layout discrepancy:

    JDP1-Pin 3 is connected to J1-Pin 3/R4, NOT to U5-Pin7/R5/D6

2021 New Tune-to sign. New 40x27 matrix at the house. Retiring the Strip based matrix. Updating some of the old window frames to the new house. Adding two new songs.
2020 Full sized show reworked for the new location. Only adding (famous last words) 13 RBLs that I finally got converted to using pixels
2019 - Just moved into a new home (yet another change of plans). Will be dim but not dark. Too much to do at the new place to leave time for a show. Dim show (3000 pixels) had regular visits most nights.

I'm confused. I don't see any JDP1 or J1 on either the schematic or the board image in the wiki. My files agree with the wiki, but the board was fab'd and distributed by wjohn, and discrepancies may have crept in if he made some changes in the reference designators that didn't make it into my files. I have one copy of the board at home, and I'll take a look at it later today to see what the reference designators are on that board. Is the board that you're looking at labeled XC5 in the lower right corner?

OK, now I see the JDP1 on the schematic (labelled J22 on my copy of the board and the board images on the Wiki), but I still don't see J1 (did you mean JP1, perhaps)?

I'm not sure if I can change the schematic any more, as it was entered with Orcad under Windows XP. I haven't been able to install that version of Orcad Schematic on any newer OS, and I'm also not sure if my remaining XP machine can boot any longer.

Actually on the board it is listed as J4. Not sure where I got J1 from.

I have an updated schematic, but I'm having trouble logging into the wiki to edit the (two) pages related to the Renard64. It's been a really long time since I've tried to make changes to the wiki, so I'll see what Macrosill has to say.

Just to make it clear, the schematic in the wiki has an error in the connection to J22 (aka JDP1).

Thanks, Martin, for finding that error. It's been there for about 11 years, which must mean something (what, I don't know).

It means no one else had to debug an issue with a cracked R4 that kept the data from getting through. Schematic shows data goes around R4 in reality it went through R4.
