If I understand your question...you want effects (like chases) to go through the 10 nulls but obviously not be shown.
First, many effects in xLights are location based so you should be able to use many effects without a problem.
Second, you might be able to model them with the 25 pixels but then assign individual channels - assigning the "nulls" to something that your controllers don't understand (and therefore not actually doing anything with or that is assigned to an unused port).
