Default Adds on your DIY Page

    Good Day Everyone.

Dont tell the admins about this post. They may not like it.

Are you annoyed with the adds on the DIY page? How about the adds that pop up on almost every page you browse?

I dont get ANY of those adds and pages load much faster.

I have a Raspberry pi in the basement connected to my network that acts as a private DNS server. On that PI I am running a program call PI-Hole (A black hole for adds on your network). I modified my DHCP server to tell all of my networked devices to send all DNS requests to the PI. If the request is going to a known add server, the PI responds with a site not available message and your browser moves on to the next task. Non add related requests are forwarded to my existing edge router and work like normal.

You can find more info at: https://pi-hole.net/

Did I mention that the program is free?

    No adds. I like it.

2020 Full sized show reworked for the new location. Only adding (famous last words) 13 RBLs that I finally got converted to using pixels
2019 - Just moved into a new home (yet another change of plans). Will be dim but not dark. Too much to do at the new place to leave time for a show. Dim show (3000 pixels) had regular visits most nights.

Why not just install an ad blocker in your browser ?
Saves time going to the cellar

This handles ALL devices in the house and I do not need to keep the add blockers up to date on multiple devices. I do an update on the PI if I happen to see an add and it is gone happened once in the past year). I also do all of my xmas work in the basement so the basement is a friendly place.

I am using the most recent RASPI on a PI 1 B+ (repurposed an old device that was lonely). The load caused by the PI Hole software is minimal. The PI rarely goes above 10% usage.
