    Default ESPixelStick Versions

A while back (2015?), I had a project that was supposed to be a bunch of props spread around a field. It was determined that they would work using some sort of wifi connected signal and local power supplies. So I purchased multiples of a new (at that time) device that sounded like it was perfect for the project. The project fell flat before the devices even arrived. So...

I have 15 or 16 of ESPixelStick version 1.1, dated 2015.08.18, just sitting on a shelf in the garage.

Another project has come to light, and I am thinking that I may be able to use the ESPixelSticks that were purchased 4+ years ago.

Before I get into it, I need to know - what is the newest version of firmware that will work with these sticks?

Where can I obtain firmware that will work on these sticks, with good installation instructions for the same. Remember, my motto is, "If it doesn't move - wire it!" My use of, and knowledge of using this type of device is "very limited".

Thanks for any and all information you can send my way.
    Live, Laugh, Love.

Firmware can be found at github.com/forkineye

I believe the latest (3.0?) firmware should work on all the board revisions...

I believe it all depends on which ESP-01 you have. During the initial release of the v1 ESPixelStick, the ESP-01 was only 1/2m memory. Then old stock exhausted and the new 1m memory were shipped. With ESPixelStick v2 came the ESPFlashTool. The ESPPFlashTool requires the 1m memory. If you had the 1m memory the ESPFlashTool would work on v1, v2 or v3. ESPís with 1/2m memory needed to stay with the old flash system, if you have the v1-1/2m ESP, upgrade your ESP-01 with a new 1m version (and not a PUYA memory chip) then you can use the current v3.1 https://github.com/forkineye/ESPixel...eases/tag/v3.1

At less than $1 USD a piece (delivered), it may be worth upgrading any 0.5M ESP01's to the latest production version.

2020 Full sized show reworked for the new location. Only adding (famous last words) 13 RBLs that I finally got converted to using pixels
2019 - Just moved into a new home (yet another change of plans). Will be dim but not dark. Too much to do at the new place to leave time for a show. Dim show (3000 pixels) had regular visits most nights.

Others have reported that the new 3.1 firmware works with the PUYA chips.

Dirk stated the same, but later retracted. He said they programmed, but when he tried to set-up they failed to hold any program or changes.

I did use two of the Puya chipped ESPs with a PixelPopTiny to test an order of 2000 WS2811 bullet nodes last weekend. I flashed them on my home network then using the web interface change settings to my show network without any issues. These are ESPs I bought over two years ago. They were only used for a short while to test new pixels though. Iíll have to break them out and test further.
