Both will allow you to control your lights fine.

Download both (they are both free) and work with them, see which one "makes sense" to you. Vixen just clicked for me, xlights may as well be Greek.

I've used Vixen for 3 years then switched to xLights. xLights is definitely the more powerful of the two. Vixen is a bit simpler to use initially if you do all your own sequencing. xLights requires a bit more investment to learn.

However, xLights allows you to very trivially adapt sequences from other users, and even mix/match between them, so there is now quite a few marketplaces that popped up to support it.

If you want to do all your own sequencing, and have a small show, then Vixen is fine. Large show, xLights. If you'd rather buy or re-use sequences than doing them yourself, then xLights.

Hi Danny, it's been a while since we saw you at Greg's gathering in NJ. Remember the campground? 10/12 years ago was it? How's things? As for me... xLights. I tried Vixen a long time ago, and then again last year. Not for me. xLights is like driving a Porsche.
