    Default GPIB to USB

This is an absolute shot in the dark, but I was looking for some sort of GPIB converter for a home project (like GPIB-to-USB). Looking around they can be have for around $100 - $150 (depending on how reputable of a unit you want), but that was way more than I thought one would cost. It isn't for a blinky project, but I figured it was worth asking on here.

    TIA

Are you sure you need GPIB? That is in itself an expensive buss. I would bet it is cheaper to plug into a USB port on the computer that has the GPIB interface card installed.

Sadly, yes. I have some old equipment (think pale green/grey HP with green CRT screens), so the only option to take to them is via GPIB. If they had USB or Ethernet, it would be a lot easier. But buying new equipment is out of the realm of possibility .

Would it be cheaper to go GPIB-to-RS422?

If you're using a PC that still has a PCI slot, I've seen some used PCI-GPIB National Instruments cards <$100 on eBay.

There is also this project out there: https://hackaday.com/2014/05/09/gpib...-a-python-api/
I built a couple of these boards up once, but never got around to getting the software side working with my equipment.

I actually started thing about the PCI route. It may save some money, I'll just have to work with my laptop AND PC to get data. Something for me to think about.

Thanks for the tip on that project. I wrote the guy to see if he is still selling any. It is a few years old, so I am not confident that he still is. worth a try though.
