Thanks for helping me feel like I’m not the only one questioning setting up this year.
I have a lot of the same issues, my daughter used to help setup and program but she has her own life and career now.
And between a bad lingering cold and the weather I just don’t seem to have the drive to “get er done”.
Maybe a minimal semi static display is the answer.
Also I just don’t look forward to fixing things in the cold. Always seems like there is some prop that decides it doesn’t want to work no matter how much I tested them before putting them out.
Good luck all.
Merry Christmas
I have a solution to this problem!
We setup a small retirement village that accepts only blinky flashy addicts.
That way we can all help each other with our setups!

I have that now. Just bought a home and one major requirement was NO HOA. I can do what I want as long as it does not impact public safety.
2019 - Just moved into a new home (yet another change of plans). Will be dim but not dark. Too much to do at the new place to leave time for a show.

We tried to move a few years ago, but had a hard time finding homes NOT in an HOA governed neighborhood. I made it very clear with our agent that we would not buy a house with any restrictions. More than half of the houses he showed were covered by HOA. But after 2 years of house hunting we called it off. The kids are almost done with high school and will be going to a local community college. So it's probably better that we stayed put. But I really wish I could have a big pole barn and a couple acres.
The subdivision we live in now has an HOA. When we bought our current house 17 years ago, we were not informed about the HOA until the very end of our closing. By then all documents were signed. The closing manager says by the way we need a check for $200 for the HOA fees. I was pissed! But so far (knock on wood) our HAO hasn't given us any problems with regards to our Halloween and Christmas displays.
I'm already dreading my decision to go dark this year, especially now that I'm seeing lights all over the community being turned on. But I hope this will give me time to refresh and come back better next year.
