Default Router Question about internet and networking

    Long story short.
I replace my Huawei ISP router with a Flash and fancy Dlink EXO DIR 879 router. I cannot for the life of me get it to connect to any of my D1 Wemos boards.

I have read (somewhere) it's better to run the show off a seperate router anyway. So I'm going to use the Huawei modem which has been working with the nodes.

My question is, Will I need to connect the Huawei to the internet, or can I run it as a local 'server'? as when i connect it back up with the same wifi protocols as before the light won't go.

I can ping successfully both the router and the D1 Wemos so they all see each other, but I can't figure out why the lights won't turn on any more since the change.

    Thanks in advance.

Are you using the same SSID on both routers - don't

Are you using the same Subnet on both - change one! 192.168.x.x and 192.168.x+1.x (or any # for the 3rd Octet so that each subnet is unique.

Have you tried multicast rather than unicast on your Wemos ?

    Yes, that is correct

You do not need internet connection.

    They are separate SSIDs

Both separate. My main one is 192.168.0.x and my lights one is 192.168.1.x

Multicast better suited for wireless . I have my router set a AP and is connected to a dhcp router with internet connection no issues.

I will use a seperate router for show only . Router ip is 192.168.1.1 with all wemos set to 192.168.1.*
    no issues.

Actually, for WiFi devices, Multicast is best.

Do you have a spare WeMos you can give a fresh flash, ensuring the correct SSID and Password are configurated.
