Sure I get that too. I was coding @ the I.T. center in Mahwah, NJ for U.P.S. years ago when COBOL was KING - Okay, I am showing my age .. Hehehehe.
I am all for progress - Look how far UPS came! I also coded in assembler, basic, C, dBase & Fortran - I really do appreciate improvements.
Okay, so if I understand this file compatibility clearly: Newer versions can read older versions, pretty much the only way to upgrade. However, the newer version could store data in a different or incompatible format that older versions might not understand. That is what I take on this

NO WORRIES.
I have had Q & A's with a vendor - a large data file took forever to load. We worked on it and they fixed it so a LARGE file is parsed in a few seconds now.
