Assuming the pic isn't just a stock picture, black board, which as mentioned above may indicate the 1mb variant. Any feedback on that one from anyone? $4 USD is roughy $5.35 Canadian (assuming you didn't get marked up or squeezed by the exchanger...hahahahahaha....that's a good one). $5.35 VS $1.52 isn't insignificant when you factor the costs of building maybe 10 of the units. But on the flip side, at least Addicore openly confirms they aren't PUYA chips...If the PUYA chips have such an issue with being programmed, how is it that it's such a toss up as to whether your still getting a (as far as I understand the problem) faulty part?
It looks like that is just a stock pic of an esp-01, and those cheap aliexpress ones almost always have the Puya chips, not trying to knock them but they are a crapshoot, Dave even talked to his vendor, that he did not want the Puya chipped units, and still ended up w/ a portion of the order w/ them, the addicore ones do guarantee them to be non-puya.

Just a warning to those buying ESP-01 from an untested source.....they are likely PUYA chips. If you risk it and they turn out to be PUYA units, and you can solder SMD chips, then you can replace the memory chip. I've done about 20 of them. Here is a link to the ones I used.

They have lowered the price since I last bought. Assume the same product.

I have also started using the WeMos device. Nice little board.

2019 - Just moved into a new home (yet another change of plans). Will be dim but not dark. Too much to do at the new place to leave time for a show.

Below is my thoughts for a design . prototype sketch and some components. Fuse is a resettable. Terminal boards were 3.5 pitch bent to mount in 2.41 holes.
I tested to 800 PixaBulbs - Wifi distance was only tested to 30 feet, but it is an ESP based unit so should be the same as ESP-01.

I need a volunteer to help me build and order a circuit board

Edit: hoping Shelby's V3 will incorporate the WeMos

Outstanding! Too bad my electrical engineering abilities are relegated to following the guides found here lol. I rely on people like you to come up with inspired solutions to problems, but I wouldn't know a damn thing without a guide. Please do keep the community up to date on your progress/findings for that idea. If you haven't already, may I suggest making a dedicated thread to centralize everything like the main Pixel stick thread?

Hey Angus! Nice to hear from you! Hope your having a good offseason, although I'm guessing your area is kind of hectic with that "event" happening nearby (vague for privacy reasons lol)

By Development board, I assume you mean something like a raspberry pi or a beaglebone etc? Aka mini credit card pc? When dealing with this project, being the pixel sticks, that idea would take the cost of each unit from maybe $5-10 up to $50++ no?

I think there is a patched version of the PixelStick that is supposed to work with the PUYA chip. I got a few of these pesky modules in my junk box, I'll give it a test, & see what happens.

I got a bunch of those pesky modules from china last year. a few worked very well with Arduino Code, but not when using the SPIFFS features. The Arduino version of the pixel stick code does work well with these, but universe/channel info has to be compiled into the firmware. Also bear in mind that the PUYA chips don't have many write/erase cycles in them.

Development board is the second link posted.
Cost of a working WeMostick would be under $5

That would be awesome if you could let me know your findings, thanks

Hi All is well here . Hope your summer is going well also !

This is what I suggest you get >>https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3252..._2559240.pic_2

And some of these >>> https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
An esPixelStick will cost 20$ , the WemosStick sounds great but shipping and conversion will add $$$
You can also source these direct from china for cheaper . Best advice for you is to learn about these as I believe its inevitably the direction
you will go . I started with the esp-01 , went to the nodemcu and now using the Wemos without looking back .
