To all you Vixen folks out there,

How do you handle changing a prop? For instance, say there was a megatree originally put into Vixen as a 16 string, 50 pixel RGB tree. Fortune shines upon you and you get to upgrade that tree to a 32 string, 75 pixel per string tree. Unfortunately sequencing has already been completed under the original specifications.

    What would you do?

    Option #1 -
Create the prop again, this time under a new name, and with the new specifications.
Copy the effects from the original to the new. Simple copy and paste.
Unpatch the old prop, then patch the new one in. Note that this is where leaving space in your physical layout comes in real handy.
Delete the old prop from the list.

    Option #2 -

if you set up your groups properly, just add more legs and make the exisring legs longer. effects applied to the prop will recreate with no extra work. if you applied effects to the legs then yoou need to add more effects to the new legs.

2019 - Just moved into a new home (yet another change of plans). Will be dim but not dark. Too much to do at the new place to leave time for a show.

And after this to adjust the preview, remove the tree shape from the view and recreate it with the smart object to the updated elements and it will auto link and have the added components. That would be faster than trying to set the updated parameters and manually link the new parts.

    Do you mind defining "properly"?

It's all about groups. My tree has a top group tree1
Under that is ten leg groups t1l01 through 1l10
each leg has pixels t1l01p01 through t1l01p50 etc.

then i have leg groups l01 through l10 that has a copy of the legs in them so i can apply an effect to a set of legs.

all the trees are in a group called trees so with a single effect i can do something on all trees at the same time.
