Default Need ideas for controller boxes

I built some wooden boxes and painted them like Christmas presents, but ended up hating it it added way too much time to setup and they are super heavy and cumbersome.

    Ideas??

Depends on what you are putting in them, I've used GC1000's and 1500's with much success. Some of those boxes I've had since 2009. I also have a couple of ammo crates of different sizes. Some use Bud boxes, HF ammo boxes, HD tool boxes. Pretty much anything that can shed water. There are lots of ideas and builds on this site, the green site, and the FPP and xLights forums.
    That's a feature not a bug.
    There's no charge for that.

CG boxes are clearly the defacto standard for over a decade.
These are so popular that Holiday Coro is making their own specific version of one.
I've used them at least that long and never an issue with one. Very good plastic and they hold paint great if done with Krylon.

Lots of folks are now using ammo boxes and they are cheap and seem to work good too

I've been thinking about little presents as controller boxes, also. I'd like to see what yours look like, even though you gave up on them. I was thinking about using clear plastic sheets, glued/sealed on the edges, painted from the inside. I like the idea of a heavy wooden box. wind & weather couldn't budge it.

Currently I have recycled boxes. 2 are circuit breaker boxes, stripped and adapted. I also have used the cable/satellite junction boxes. I have a few enclosures from places like Pac-Tec (they give samples). I reuse and repurpose almost anything.

I got a couple of these, very nice, easy to install cable glands in them, and very water tight, survived winters on the rainy Oregon coast.

Yea went through photos, no clear pictures of my boxes.. but it's essentially a 2x4 frame supported at top and middle with cross boards. Then ply wood on all sides but bottom. The cable boxes mounted inside x4. It was such a pain to hook up all the cords to it. Probably added 3-4 hours to the setup. Didn't bring anything to the display, they couldn't be seen at night, and, well, your know what a bunch of lights looks like during the day.

I'm curious how people take and set up controllers in the yard near the elements/fixtures.

The controller for the pixel mega tree is mounted to the pole. The controller for the arches was put on the landscape rocks nearby. The renard controller was laid on the ground under the evergreen tree. So, nothing special. All boxes I use are CGxxxx boxes.

I second these boxes. Have used one for several years, both a Halloween and Christmas show without issue.

Bud Industry Boxes, Ammo Boxes, CG Series Boxes. They all have one thing in common. They are used all over the place.
To "hide them", you can paint them a color that won't show up in the dark (black/dark grey/etc.), or you can cover them.
A very effective method is to make "Christmas presents" out of coroplast.
I've seen some that had lights all around the inside of the base of the coroplast's case. The CG boxes (in this case) were put in the center. From a visual standpoint you didn't know there was anything inside of the lighted box.

A trick that we use is that a series of boxes are progressively smaller (or bigger) than the last one. As many as 6 boxes have been nested for storage. The controller boxes were put on shelves.

Lots of good ideas in quite a few threads on several of the sites. Check them out.
