Default New lights with no controller yet, can I power them?

So excited, I just got my first set of pixels but hadn't ordered the controller yet. I have a power supply, can I just hook them up to the power supply to see them light up or do I need to wait for my controller.
    Thanks,
    Sam

Pixels require power and data. You have power. The controller supplies data.

2019 - Just moved into a new home (yet another change of plans). Will be dim but not dark. Too much to do at the new place to leave time for a show.

Got Arduino? Where you from? Maybe someone near you has one.

Thanks. I did end up using arduino. Which was a whole extra bit of craziness. (Com port didn't work on linux, then tried windows, and that had similar issues, so went back to linux and had to backport, ugh). But excited to say I got it working. As for people near me, I wish there were. I live in rural Hawaii. Thanks for the ideas though.

This is the kind of tester I bought, can use easily without the need of a controller. Just need a power supply and pixtail of choice to connect to your strand.
