I hope you don't plan to use that in the US. That power level into a good ground plane antenna will get you shut down pretty quick. I also use 10mw into a ground plane antenna and get well over half a mile. My antenna is only 10cm from the ground. I suspect the signal would go much further if I raised it up.

2019 - Just moved into a new home (yet another change of plans). Will be dim but not dark. Too much to do at the new place to leave time for a show.

I guess I'll just order a new part.

Yea I'm kinda in the US. And the little antenna I use that's why I'm confused on why the range is so small when it's almost 5W. If I use no antenna would that cause damage?

no antenna == destroyed output transistors. low power transistors may last a few minutes. high power transistors last seconds. that is what the wand antenna is for. it keeps the transistors alive until you attach a real antenna. if you try to use the wand antenna then you need to make sure you set it to a correct length or you may still destroy the transistors.

Haha, when I first used used it. I had no antenna connected so that's my problem...

Yep... you toasted the output transistors .

Gotta learn somehow, ya know? Don't use things without antennas

There's no telling what all blew. For 7W of output, that would be a multistage unit and there may be multiple parts blown.
I'd return it and buy something more forgiving and more appropriate.
In the case of a transmitter, more power does not mean better.

Yea I'm just forgetting about that one and I bought the one Canispater has. The $5 one that's built.
