Default Mean Well vs Generic Power Supply

    I can get:

    1) Mean Well Power 12V 350W power supply for $50 + shipping ( https://www.jameco.com/z/NES-350-12-...s_2149589.html )
I've also heard to watch out for fake/counterfeit Mean Well Power supplies ( see the logo on this one: https://youtu.be/Scs0esmGfqs?t=268 )
    or
    2) A generic power supply for $15 + shipping ( http://www.diyledexpress.com/index.p...products_id=58 ).

In your opinion, is the name brand "Mean Well" worth 3X the cost?

    Thanks.

P.S. Can't search the forum for Mean Well. Get this msg:

    Try MeanWell (one word).

You'll find more search-responses than you can possible read...

I think most on the forum are using this series of 12v supply from Meanwell (if they use Meanwell): https://www.jameco.com/z/LRS-350-12-...html?CID=MERCH

Almost half the price of the NES series you are looking at. They are also available from sellers on this forum.

Another option is re-use of decommissioned HPC supplies that have been rotated out of compute farms.

Thanks. Good to know. I see it is also a lower profile/form factor: 50mm vs 30mm

I use waterproof transformers, and Meanwell is just too proud of theirs at over $70 for a 100W 12V.....I can buy a generic, 3 spares and lunch at fast food for that!

Weatherproof generics in service for 3 years....no failures.
I do have a couple Meanwells indoor, but I just cannot justify the premium price...spares are better.

For me, it's a pain to go out in the freezing cold and try to change a power supply with numb fingers. I might concede this point if we had milder weather.
