Default How well do JST connections work outdoors? CorrosionX?

(I cannot search for JST, probably too short?)

My immediate project is converting Really Big Lights to pixel control, but I have many other related projects in the hopper which involve LED strings, strips or modules for outdoor application.

Some LED devices have waterproof connectors, but JST connectors are more common and many LED devices are not available off the shelf with waterproof connectors, even with IP68 rated LED devices (china IP68, but still...). And JST connectors fit through the mounting nuts on the amusement-park style multi-LED modules I plan to use with the RBL, unlike some waterproof connectors.

Can I get away with using JST connectors in an outdoor display, knowing that there will likely be rain (but no snow)?

How much would spraying CorrosionX on the contacts before the season help?

(And do you have any tips to reduce the labor and wasted overspray?)

I think some of the guys are using them, just put some dielectric grease in the connection to keep out the water.

I use Corrosion-X gun oil (not the spray version). One drop on the connectors and I do not have any water related issues. I have had other issues with poor quality JST connectors but not moisture related issues.

I'm with Martin, except use a grease...I was given a tube of Super Lube and just stayed with it - great dielectric

FYI: I have used the Corrosion-X on my Ethernet connections as well. They are all clean, shiney and work well year after year outside.

Thanks for the reccomendations so far!

Super Lube seems to be a brand. Any recommendations as to the best specific product for our DIY uses?

Here are three which claim to be dielectric greases:

    #21030 = NLGI 2

    #91003 = Silicone

    #82340 = PTFE

    (or others: https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_s...lectric+grease)

I like the corrosion-X idea better than the grease. I used dielectric grease on my waterproof connectors two years ago and all they did was gather dirt in the boxes over the winter. I won't do that again, it was a mess to clean the connectors. Just my 2.
    That's a feature not a bug.
    There's no charge for that.
