What gauge wire is used on WS2811 pixels strands?

Depends on where you buy them I think... all my pixels have teeny 20 gauge wires between them. I run 18 gauge to the start pixel from the controller.

18 or 20 AWG, depending on the vendor, and depending on the item you’re buying. For example, Ray Wu has identical pixel strands available in both 18 and 20 gauge; you have to check the description to determine which is which.

I think you will find the stated China wire gauge is lesser than the actual AWG. Stated 18 Guage is just China’s 50mm2 where 75mm2 is a little large than our 18 AWG, is the best equivalent size. So...China’s stated 18 AWG is closer to 20 AWG, and their stated 20 AWG is closer to 22 AWG.

If really want 18 AWG, order 75mm2 metric sizing

You can extend wires using a different guage, and in fact, if you are extending them a long distance, I highly recommend you use a thicker wire to do so.
