    Default 3D Bubble Tree

This year I wanted to combine some ideas I had found on here and use some frames I purchased a few years ago at one of the Christmas Expos. After setting up large displays for years, this year I am working on a smaller, portable display that I can setup easily, but cram as much as I can into a small package. I took ideas from the Bubble Tree mentioned here and wanted to do a 3d version. I am finally getting something worth looking at and wanted to share.

I started by cutting tons of different sized PVC pipe into short sections.

Then I used PVC glue to attach them to corrugated plastic sheets pre-cut to my frame panels.

Then I center-drilled the backing in each PVC cutout, inserted the pixels, cut to length, and soldered the connectors so each panel can be cascaded. I wrapped each panel in white shrink-wrap which helps protect it, hold it all together, and diffuse the light.

Here are a few more pics. I should have the finished project by this weekend, but wanted to get some pics up. A lot of thought and experimenting went into this project. With the shrink wrap, it is coming together better than I expected. In addition to this centerpiece tree, I have 16 smaller wire-frame tree elements that will form the display. Let me know your thoughts and I hope you enjoy.

Very nice--love it when people come up with new ideas and implement them well!
