Default Cost of Christmas to Increase

I've enjoyed cheap access to Chinese manufactured goods for many years. If you have anything shipped from China via AliExpress, Alibaba, Amazon or even E-Bay, chances are that your shipping costs will increase. Much of the small items we buy for DIY Christmas come shipped at a very low cost due an outdated postal agreement. It looks like a change to that agreement is on the way. I've always thought the current agreement was unfair but I've taken advantage of shipping costs anyway. Because this affects items < 4.4 lbs, we might see a shift from buying directly from China to US based distributors who order in bulk. Overall it probably means an increase in cost for items like cheap transmitters, connectors, cabling, shrink tubing, small circuits, etc. Pixels over 4.4 lbs probably won't be affected. If you've been holding off on buying the items in your shopping cart then you might consider placing an order before this agreement goes away!

As much as I hate to see shipping costs go up, it really is the fair thing to do. If you've ever had to return product back to China or otherwise send anything from here to there, you'd know first hand how lopsided things really are.

The same can be said with the cost to make something in China vs. US. But the tariffs dont help.

I agree. I was just trying to give a heads up about a possible change. Hopefully this is just a way to renegotiate the agreement but it still might change how we do direct business with China. It could be a good thing in the long run. I wish I could hold someone responsible for my self combusting soldering station or the orders that get shorted or never arrive.

Sounds like a great business opportunity for our US based folks. Perhaps CFOL, DIYLEDExpress, or others in the US will reap the benefit.
