Default Adding pixel sticks to an AC Renard show

    Hi everyone,

Last year I ran an all AC Renard show. This year, Iím adding some pixels in, and I am using pixel sticks as my controllers. I am wondering what the easiest way is to add the pixel sticks to the show?

Last year, I ran my show on a Raspberry Pi with FPP going out of the ethernet port to an RS-485 adapter to my Renard controllers which were daisy chained.

    Here is my question:

Can I go out of the ethernet jack on the raspberry pi into a wireless router, then go out of the router to the RS Ė 485 adapter and then on to the Renardís?

Then can the pixel sticks also connect to the wireless access point on the router?

Well everything play nicely that way?

If not, whatís the best way to set all this up?

    Thanks!

    Ken

I have not heard of an Ethernet to RS485 adapter. Are you sure you are not using an E1.31 bridge?

Most APs have a switch built in. Mine has a four port switch an an upload port.
    At any rate:

    FPP Ethernet to a Switch.
    E1.31 bridge to the switch.
AP to the switch (if they are not the same device).
    ESP associates to the AP
FPP sends multicast E1.31 that is used by the ESP to output data.

Default Adding pixel sticks to an AC Renard show

    My mistake.

Actually, last year I ran the Rernard controllers from the Raspberry Pi using a USB to RS-485 adapter.

Can I continue to do that this year, but also run an ethernet cable from the Raspberry Pi to a router, which would then send signal to the ESPixel sticks?

    Thanks!

Hi, just for reference (A new thread can be started if there is interest):
It can be done for about $10 with an Arduino Nano V3.0, ENC28J60 Ethernet shield and a RS485 breakout board, with a choice of output – DMX or Renard. Link.

In this case, yes you can do it with only the addition of a Wifi Access Point. Renard will still go out via USB and your Pi will connect to the AP via TCP/IP. At the AP, your Pi will be on the same network as your pixel sticks.

What Renard controllers do you have.....if they are Renard Plus controllers, there is a snap-in device for ESP controlled.....and Last year there was a thread on folks adding ESP Control to their Renard controllers. Barnabybear weren't you one of those helping folks on this process, or was that Ruppro.

this is pretty similar to my question here - http://doityourselfchristmas.com/for...d-RenSS-boards

I'm tagging along to see what else shows up. I need to catch up and get the pi running.
