Default RPi Ready for Install Now What?

I have a RPi ready for first time power on. I also have a SD that has FPP v2 burnt onto it. From the FPP site they say to just put SD into Pi, attach ether net cable and then power on the Pi. Does the Pi need to be booted up first to update Raspian or do I just follow the procedure as per FPP site?

Thanks for the response, now hopefully my last question. I intend to use a USB flash drive to store sequences on for FPP. Does the drive need to be in place prior to first start up or can it be installed after FPP is up and running on the Pi?

USB is hot swappable but if you're not sure plug it in before booting. Then go to FPP setup and select the usb for storage.
