    Default Vixen or xlights?

    Hi there,

I wondered which was the best software option out of vixen and xlights for producing good quality effects on a mega tree fairly easily and quickly?

    Thanks

Both are excellent. Recommend you try them both and see which one clicks with your workflow the best.

Never ending debate, try both. I went with xlights, felt more natural to me, but others say the same about vixen. Check out the facebook pages for both to see what support the community offers as well.

No question about it. The best one is the one that is easiest for you to understand and use. Other than that they both stay in line with each other for the effects they can produce.

2020 Full sized show reworked for the new location. Only adding (famous last words) 13 RBLs that I finally got converted to using pixels
2019 - Just moved into a new home (yet another change of plans). Will be dim but not dark. Too much to do at the new place to leave time for a show. Dim show (3000 pixels) had regular visits most nights.

Questions like this have started more than one war. Careful. Loyalties run strong (and usually very vocal.)

Speaking from the unusual stance of actively using both, they are both great. They each have their own quirks. It is usually a matter of design philosophy, and tends to lean toward the designer's methods of doing things.

It is the one that fits into the way you do things that will be the best for you. Download them both, and then try to learn as much about both of them as you can. One or the other will be "easier" for you. It is all in the mindset.

I would agree. I use vixen for my show because I started with Vixen 2 and it was easy to go to Vixen 3. I added a matrix this year and I use Xlights for it because for me it is easier to do the matrix with it.

What I find interesting is the growing number of us that use both. Each year I keep thinking I'll settle on one but each year they both keep getting better.

I do this as well. Had been using Vixen 3 for years and forced myself to learn xLights this year just because. I find my sequences have a different feel when I'm done so it adds variety which is nice.
