I would start with enabling the PWM Mode (no cost and is needed anyway). If that does not work then purchase the Triacs.

2020 Full sized show reworked for the new location. Only adding (famous last words) 13 RBLs that I finally got converted to using pixels
2019 - Just moved into a new home (yet another change of plans). Will be dim but not dark. Too much to do at the new place to leave time for a show. Dim show (3000 pixels) had regular visits most nights.

Will do. It's been quite a few years since I programmed a pic. I'll need to review that then find the PWM Mode setting.

I thought I might have seen a pic programming video on here so I'll search for that.

UPDATE: I pulled out the pic programmer and I think I know what I have to do to erase, import the pic (3 I think on the Ren24, right?). I have a file that I think is pulled into the programmer and I'm assuming that's what I have to modify. So, how/where and to what value to I change the PWM mode? Or what should I look for when I load the data from the pic?

Thanks in advance for more help!!

    https://www.doityourselfchristmas.co...gramming_A_PIC

http://www.doityourselfchristmas.com...guration_Guide shows how to compile the .ASM - just ignore the start address stuff and set the pwm flag.

Get the .asm version and look for the PWM section. Set the flag.

Somewhere there has to be a PWM start address 0 version of the firmware?

https://diychristmas.org/vb1/showthr...enard-Firmware - goto first post download the zip. find start_addr-0-pwm-57600.HEX and you can skip the compile step unless you have other things to change.

I did check out the pic programming guide, but I think I'm good with actually using the pic programmer, loading, clearing and programming the pic.

I just realized something... I wonder what I actually needed the pic programmer for in the first place! I can't remember what I had to change years ago.

I guess the information I need to change is in the .hex file so I do have that which would include the original changes. Using that would be good I guess, however I also just noticed that its has Ren48 in the naming (attached). I would imagine there would be different settings for the different boards, but that should be the file I used.

I'll check out the latest link you posted.

Thanks for the info so far!!

Sorry, but I'm not finding that .HEX file. If I do, does that have PWM mode enabled or do I have to set it?

Is pic programming an all or nothing thing or can hex files contain just certain settings and overwrite just those settings currently on the pic, leaving all else as is? Or, is a hex a complete list of options/settings and one must erase the pic before programming with the new file?

    you want this file:

    http://diychristmas.org/firmware/all_pwmP57600.zip

Inside the zip is a bunch of hex files that have been pre-compiled with PWM turned on. Use the one with start address zero.

THANK YOU! I'll give it a shot. Hopefully this works!! Just to be clear that has the option enabled already right?
