As you read in the planet christmas thread, there is capacitance in led strings that messes things up. so try a snubber of some sort in the circuit.
I like the snubber described in that post. The resistor linked there is no longer available so would you know which type I could use?
As always, Thanks for any info!

if you follow the link in the article, there is a replacement part listed that is identical in performance. However, in this case, resistors are resistors. you want through hole 47k 1 watt and beyond that not much matters so you can search for better price. the 47k resistor is handy to have a few around. I think there was a formula in the thread for knowing for sure what to use but the 47k 1 watt is a very common snubber for diy light controllers.

    AWESOME! Thanks!!

Would this work? https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail...uxySvGUA%3D%3D ? Or this... https://www.digikey.com/product-deta...RC-ND/10488397 ? (UPDATE: The digikey item is NOT 47K!) Just looking around for cheapest in stock.

I wish I had one resistor to try in a plug before ordering a bunch.

Carefull. The one you are posting about from digikey is a 330 ohm resistor. You want a 47K (47000) ohm resistor. FYI: Adding a resistor is doing pretty much what the incan bulb was doing. The incan is a wire with a resistance that bleeds the extra voltage caused by the LED Line capacitance.

Oops, yeah, I forgot to set that criteria before searching there! But the other is OK? If so, I'll just go with that one and order the plugs on Amazon...

Not sure if I can find those cheaper or not. I only need 15-20 of these made so not a huge cost.

    There's also these cheaper resistors..

Here is the digikey 47K resister. You are going to spend more on shipping than the $4 USD you are going to pay for 20 resisters.

Everything is ordered. We'll see how this works out in a week or two! Thanks for all of the help and hopefully this solves/works around the problem.

So I was looking at a thread using vampire plugs to create the snubber and was warned to allow for heat ventilation from the snubber. In the PlanetChristmas thread, I believe the plugs were sealed with silicone after the resistor was installed. These are the plugs I will be using...

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...t_b_prod_image

Should I fill them with silicone or hot glue to close off the hole or leave open for ventilation?

fill it. make sure the entire plug has good ventilation. The silicon is going to turn the whole plug into a heat sink.

When you say make sure the entire plug has good ventilation, do you mean that the plug is not enclosed and is exposed to air or are you saying the internal parts are ventilated. That's where I was confused, I thought filling with silicone would hurt the ventilation.

Oh, and the plugs actually came in today and this mechanism seems to work!! The fades are good, across 10 strings at least!!
