Default New Product from Holiday Lighting: 4 Port Power Fan Out/Distribution Board

Sticking with our focus on power related products, Holiday Lighting is happy to announce a new product that will be available for pre-order this week. We worked with a fellow forum member (ukewarrior) on the design of a DC power distribution board.

This has gone through a few design changes and some extensive testing to ensure it's performance and quality.

Testing was done with genuine Mean Well power supplies in 5v, 12v, 24v and 36v, LRS-350 series. Load testing was done with a TTi LD300 DC Electronic load equipment at 1a, 2a, 3a, 4a, 5a, 10a, 15a and 20a. Attached is testing that was done using 12awg stranded copper wire for input and 14awg stranded copper wire for output.

The product will be available in 3 formats. Bare Board, Kit, and Assembled.

Here is what you can expect for pricing. Pricing does not include shipping. There will be a couple of options available for shipping. These prices are subject to change.

    Bare Board $2.00
    Kit $10.00
    Fully Assembled $15.00

    Kits will include:
    1 x PCB
    1 x 6" .118 (3mm) Rosin Core Solder for the Lugs
    1 x SPDT Slide Switch
2 x "B12-PCB-S" Dual Rated Printed Circuit Board Lug 12 AWG
    4 x 5.08mm terminal block
    4 x fuse holders
    4 x 5a Mini Fuse
    4 x 1/4 or 1/8 W resistors
    4 x 3mm LED

Full step by step instructions with color photos will be available. While testing was done with stranded wire it will be recommended to use solid copper wire from your power supply to the input of this board. Additionally keeping the wire as short as possible is recommended. This will help with any voltage drop between the power supply and the inputs on the board.

The PCB has a copper pour of 1oz across the top and bottom to minimize voltage drop. This is actually version 2 of the board as we changed the input connectors to heavy-duty lug type connectors to minimize the voltage drop we were seeing with the
9.5mm terminal blocks we used on the version 1 board.

Since a LRS-350-5 can put out 60a MAX if you plan to use that much power you will want to use 3 boards since each is rated for 20a with 4 x 5a fused outputs.

Right now I only have a few v2.0 boards available for sale this week. v2.1 boards have some minor changes and will be ordered this week.

Ordering will start this week once I've finalized shipping costs and updated the website to accept pre-orders.

While you will not be placing orders here via this thread I would like to hear back from you with any questions as well as estimates on what you think you will order. Include if you want board only, kit or fully assembled and how many so that I make sure to have enough on hand to cover the initial orders.

    v2.0 board

What are the mounting holes made for, e.g. which box will we be able to put this into?

Are the parts for this board the same as what had been previously mentioned, except for the Lugs?

Yes the only difference is the lugs and I will only include 1.2k resistors what work with 5v, 12v, 24v, and 36v so you don't have to choose which resistor to use. If you use your own BOM you should use resistors that work with the LED's you plan to use.

    Thanks Chris.
I have all the parts (leds, resistors, etc) that I ordered from when the board was first being discussed. Just wanted to make sure.
I may have some of those lugs lying around,if not I'll have to grab some somewhere.

The mounting holes are arbitrary and not designed for any particular box as this item often is with other power products and not in a box by itself.
    Thanks for asking.
