    I can see this, very easily. Provide a hoop at top and bottom, with an internal support (probably up the middle) with the pixels attached to it. No shadows from the support, and a very clean looking drum.

    I've been experimenting with the coro, and while it would work as a shell wrap, I have my doubts about it retaining shape or supporting any kind of weight, especially for the base drum. So still brainstorming. A thought, especially for doing it on the cheap... What about using something like bins, buckets, paint cans etc, where you could cut out the base, leaving a fairly solid cylinder, then you could paint the shell or wrap it with something, and come up with some kind of translucent material that's either clear or partially translucent for the drum "skins" to diffuse the light?
