    Default Web Cam is up

I decided to do a web cam for this years setup. If you want to watch the display go up, it will be active when I'm out doing setup.

    Cool.

    It works!

I was just watching a couple of folks doing something the front yard on a beautiful sunny day!

Should be fun when the lights are blinking. Will it work for that?

Depends a lot on the type of camera you have. Cheap webcams (like you would get at a Walmart or something) have to be connected to a computer, generally via USB cabling. A special software must be run to take pictures and upload them every so many seconds.

A lot of people now are switching over to network cameras. You can simply plug them in to a router via cat5, set up port forwarding, and give people your IP address and port the camera is hosted on. Many of these cameras now also run off of wireless, so you don't have to run cat5 cable to them. While these cameras cost more, they are considerably more flexible.

I have a network camera set up to watch over my porch, where my controller and speakers will be living.

    Wayne,

Does that camera have a built-in web server? And if so, how many concurrent users can access the web server? The make and model would also be helpful.

    Thanks.

I am sure the software will work, but my camera may be lacking. I will be giving a try though. Hopefully it will work.

I have only been turning it on when I'm out doing stuff. When it is off, your browser may say 'cannot display page' , but it is a good link. Not much happening during the evenings right now. Closer to "Lights On" I will be out more on the weekday envenings. The weekends is when it will be on for most of the day.

I am using a cheap wireless surveillance cam I picked up at WalMart last year. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=4698858

I have that hooked up to my video capture card in my PC.
The software is webcamXP Frank turned me on to it. It is really neat software. You will need to setup a static IP address for it. No webserver or stuff to setup.

I listed that above, but I really feel there are better cameras out there. We will have to wait until I get some lights out to test to see how it does at night with the ights. Being that it is a night vision camera, I doubt it will do well, but I hope it does.
