1 - doesn't (can't) the Pi run the shows independently - not using any network connection - just play the sequences of the flash drive?
    - - - Yes, but you need to set the schedule to start the sequence, or click the play. And load the sequences and music.

2 - which should I choose - player stand a lone, master, or remote?
    - - - - For now chose the Player (standalone)

3 - shouldn't I be able to connect to the Pi (falcon player software) using the wifi feature of the Pi?
    - - - - Yes, I believe you said you had a Pi 3 - that has internal WiFi that I think works with Ver 1.8 but does work with Ver 1.9

4 - if #3 worked can't I upload media and sequences to FPP and run the matrix test patterns?
    - - - - When you establish a WiFi connection to Pi3 - Yes

5 - is there something I am missing or don't understand?
    - - - - We are working with that - don't know your issue that is blocking the connection.

6 - why doesn't IP address appear under multi sync?
    - - - - - FPP WiFi is not talking to your Router. Either the Security protocol conflicts or the SSID and Passcodes don't match, or ???

Maybe Ruppro was correct and I have a special setup allowing Hardwire and Wifi connection.
Try unplugging the hardwire network and Plug a earphone in the jack. Reboot, and FPP will tell you the ip when it boots...if it is connected.

Or hook up a HDMI cable to the TV or Monitor and watch the load.....towards the end it will show the IP address, if connected.

I am more confused than every - i thought building the matrix was going to be the time consuming part of this project.

1 - on boot the FPP announced two IP addresses - 192.168.1.75 and 192.168.1.80 - I can connect from a wireless laptop to FPP using either IP address.

This info is from my uVerse

    Attachment 36871
    Attachment 36872

    Does any of this help?

OK unplug the Hardwire and try both addresses......192.168.1.80 should connect.

    you are using safari correct.......
No http:// or / just the IP into the web browser.

Thank you to everyone. I am up and running from a wireless MacBook to wireless Pi3.

I completely started from scratch. I did a clean install of ver 1.8 (since 1.9 doesn't support wifi) - used all the setting everyone suggested and for some reason this time it worked.

Hopefully I can run a sequence and or test pattern tomorrow night.
