As long as you see this:

    Target Device ID (0x0)

Then you are not really talking to the PIC and you are back to looking at wiring

2020 Full sized show reworked for the new location. Only adding (famous last words) 13 RBLs that I finally got converted to using pixels
2019 - Just moved into a new home (yet another change of plans). Will be dim but not dark. Too much to do at the new place to leave time for a show. Dim show (3000 pixels) had regular visits most nights.

WOW! OK, that explains a lot. So here is how I connect from the Pickit3 to the chip (see pix).

    From what I found:
    Pickit 3 PIC
    1 (w/ arrow) Blue - Pin 3
    2 Green ------------ Pin 1
    3 Yellow ------------ Pin 14
    4 Orange ----------- Pin 13
    5 Red --------------- Pin 12
    6 Brown - not used

If you're trying to program a 16F688 I think you need to move the blue wire from pin 3 to pin 4 on the PIC.

Got it! Green 1, Blue 4 all else the same. Unfortunately, same results.

    BTW - Thanks!
