    Default Christmas Display Website

Didn't know where to put this thread (Here, Show Off, The Lounge)

How many people have personal websites for their display? I currently have a Facebook page but would like to build an actual website where I can host facts about the display, announcements, display videos, etc.

I have never created a website before so any guidance or assistance would be awesome.

Also please post your display website if you have one.

I had a website for years. I have since let my GoDaddy Account expire and I haven't set it up again. IMO, if you are only trying to get the word out and share the basics about your site, then I would just use Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and other social media tools. I haven't had a display for the last 2 years and I still get 10-15 visitors a week to my Facebook page out of season and 100's of hits during the season.

    No display again in 2016
Just too much going on to get things going the way I want. So continuing the hiatus

I will need to make a Twitter/Instagram for this season.

I dont get much traffic at all to the Facebook page. I have a total of 52 likes, which for the first year is probably good. I think this year I will try to have a sign that says our facebook/instagram/twitter information.

I agree with just setting up a facebook page.

You can find a few web hosting services for $2 a month (~$24 year) but then you have to deal with creating the website, keeping it updated.. etc.

A better option is to buy a domain (something like www.smithschristmasdisplay.com) and have it 'forward' to your facebook page.

Here is how you do it on godaddy:
    https://www.godaddy.com/help/forward-a-domain-12123

That way you get the best of both worlds... Facebook & your own domain name.

I've been using wix.com for a few years now, not a Face book person and still allows friends and relatives to see the show
that can't see it live. The best part is it's free!
It's fairly easy to use mostly cut and paste.

Be careful what you wish for / start. There are folks with way too much traffic and I personally know two folks who often, esp weekends, have to be outside directing traffic. That is not how I wish to spend my evenings.

I use my Vixen Messaging app http://doityourselfchristmas.com/for...atrix-Megatree to send people links. So when someone sms's a message to my display after the message is displayed I can have the app return a message or link to their cell phone. You could include a link to your Facebook page.

Even if you don't use Vixen as your sequencer then you can still install Vixen and Vixen Messaging for just displaying messages on a dedicated matrix.

Honestly, this is the display dream. Having huge crowds every weekend.
