What are you using to flash the ESP? (the physical hardware) And when you are looking to see if it is found by the AP, is it connected to the controller or still in the flash tool?

I'm using a SparkFun FTDI Basic (serial USB) on a WIN10 PC. I tried both powering with the flashtool and a Renard controller with no luck. In the past I just used the flashtool to power the modules while setting the addresses, channels etc.

I though I might have a memory issue. I have blue ESPs and a lot of those were 512KB.

It turns out the ESP has a BergMicro 25Q80A 8Mbit (1MB) 4KB sector flash memory. That is enough for v2.0 right?

Yes V2 and above requires the 1MB flash, are you not able to flash any ESPs or only certain ones?

I've only tried two and no luck. I was able to flash with the Arduino software the v1.4 firmware, and they work with that.

It sound like they are only the 512MB ones, or at least acting like one, do you have any of the black PCBs?

I got it to work finally...

    - loaded latest SparkFun FTDI drivers
    - used modified Sporadic's flasher
    - flashed from Win7 PC

I assumed because WIN10 identified the FTDI and auto loaded drivers it was good to go, nope!

Q: I set SPI to auto and it switched from DIO to to QIO. Does that really matter, seems to have loaded fine?

Flashing using this tool seems to succed but when it completes the serial window just shows jiberish. Does this indicate the flash is some how compromised?

You'll need the ESP flasher tool to upload the binary using the FTDI programmer/serial cable.

    Setup the tool like this:

    Attachment 36010
I down loaded the espressif flash tool. I have a question about settings.

My ESP are 1M (8Mbit) chips yet the example page "flash size" is set to 32Mbit, which is correct?

The 230400 baud rate set is solely for the FTDI serial communications, has nothing to do with the ESP's operating rate when wireless correct?
