XLights isn't dropping their scheduler. Just looking to de-integrate it and enhance it. As John says lots of people want a scheduler on their pc.

BTW, the engine slow down bug I have also affects the scheduler playback. So I am FORCED to use FPP. Might help explain some of my bitterness toward the scheduler...

6th gen core i5, 16GB ram, SSD and newest .net. Playback in preview or actual output gets choppy after a while. You've had me send in memory dumps and couldn't find the problem.

Even better, still solves the problem of scheduler integration slowing down sequencer development. I'd be happy to see Vixen have a separate scheduler app too. But I don't think it will happen with my understanding of the sequencer / engine / scheduler interconnects.

Disconnecting the scheduler from the sequencer is a challenge ... But worth it.

I agree. I would like to use effects such as the curtain on my whole house. I thought I had in the past??? The curtain is very much like Wipe so perhaps the two could combine.

I use the scheduler. I would like to make updates to sequences without stopping the entire show. I would also suggest the ports are initialized when the show begins.

In vixen, there wouldn't be a whole lot of benefits to separate scheduler/editor apps. But you can probably infer from the options presented above that we are thinking something along these lines. They would largely be the same app though. The core engine is needed for both and would remain exactly the same. However, we are working on methods to do some more prerendering in advance and caching of that for more streamlined playback. It wouldn't completely preclude live rendering, but would reduce the amount of work that the renderer needs to do every time. So most of the focus would revolve around streamlining prerendering which helps both the editor and the scheduler. And also stuff that has to do with sharing the profile with multiple simultaneous instances running on the network. This second part also is part of the work needed to improve data file stability which has been a secondary side issue we've been dealing with as profiles get bigger.
I don't see a lot of time being spent specifically on the scheduler, not this year at least. Most of the improvements would come as side effects of the other improvements. But hearing what's most important to people helps us to figure out the details behind the scenes needed to get to that end goal.
One of the things we want to do with the FPP integration is to participate as a multisync partner. In many cases where you'd want this, vixen would likely be the master and the FPP instances the slaves. (at least the ones we've imagined so far) But it could go the other way too. Maybe FPP runs the bulk of the display, but the vixen slave focuses on something specific that's interactive or otherwise needs the more advanced live engine. Or maybe vixen is the schedule master and syncs FPP slaves to run repetitive localized parts of the display. It seems to us that this makes the most sense when the overall display config is managed all on one place, up front, as you configure for sequencing.
There's some other active threads out there that illustrate that FPP has been finding it's limits too. Not everything is best done on tiny hardware. But it does certainly have it's place and so long as the multiple instance concept is in place, there's a lot that can be done to overcome those limits.
So several of the items in the list are directly related, and will all get done eventually, but we can steer the order of development differently to get the most bang for our buck for the most people.

What do you mean by this? Are you talking about the ports used to communicate to controllers? If so, that's not very likely. The ports need to be open for the engine to run, and the engine needs to be running before the scheduler can run. What is the actual problem you're looking to solve?
Keep in mind that many of us use more than one simultaneous schedule or have schedules overlap in time for various practical purposes, so how would restarting the engine work with that in mind?

And unfortunately this has been isolated to something with your overall setup. We have numerous people running their shows and sequencing that have not experienced that. It's extremely hard for me to try and fix something that I cannot reproduce no matter how much I want to. I was hoping you would be able to test it on another computer to try and further isolate the issue. My feeling is it is something external to Vixen, but that is the only way we have to try and prove that. I am also happy to take your profile and run it on my hardware if can provide it to see if it occurs. I seem to recall the discussions we had were around sequencing., but if it occurs in a show I can at least run that in the same manner you would.

No, in the thread I brought this up in others were reporting the same issue as I, with the same symptoms. But no need to further dilute this thread about it...
