    Default Extension cord alternatives

Hello. I run my light display with an arduino mega 2560 using vixen 2.1.1. I had 32 channels this year running on sainsmart mechanical relays. I'm changing those out for SSR next year because the mechanical ones started getting tired. I am curious if there is a way to use something other than extension cords to run my lights. I have just basic lights so nothing fancy for each channel. Thanks for any help!

I used some of the following
1- a couple of standard extension cords
2- old incandescent string lights converted to cheap extension cords
3- SPT-1 wire wth vampire plugs to make my own custom length extension cords
4- 2 conductor and 4 conductor alarm cable for DC powered items

SPT wire and vampire plugs. Easy way to make cords exactly the length you need

I actually buy the incandescent strings of lights after Christmas for cheap, and convert them, pretty easy and to have a 20-25' cord for a string of leds is nice. just a little work and some solder and heat shrink and your good to go
here is a video you can search you tube and find more videos talking about this

I have bought storage bins full of old lights at garage sales for $5 a bin to convert. You have quite a few months to look and convert. A lot of people getting rid of their old incandescent lights, especially this time of year.

Thanks! I would have never thought of using lights for extension cords! I bought 20 sets last night for 57 cents each. Now I just have to convert them. Brilliant idea! Much appreciated!

A lot of people just throw them out when they stop working. You can get those for free if you find them. You could post on Craig's List asking for old light strings.
