    Default Teensy 3.2

I see some people have had success with Teensy 3.2, OctoWS2811 Adaptor and vixen but there is no documentation to illustrate the setup. Is there a reason teensy 3.2 is not being utilized or is it just new to the scene? I want to run a string of 500 pixel nodes across my eaves and go from there next year. Can I buy some addressable nodes from Ray, a Teenst 3.2 with the OctoWS2811 Adaptor and use vixen to make a chasing element? I know everyone is cranking out their displays atm so I would be humbled with any replies. I can't find any guides specific to setting up teensy 3.2 with the OctoWS2811 Adaptor and vixen. I've read about OctoWS2811 LED Library and the FastLED library but not sure which to use or if I even need it. Is it as simple as connecting data from the nodes to pin 6, setup power and selecting generic serial from controllers within vixen? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi I too am having difficulty finding information on the teensy, other than it it is a much better choice.

I'm working on my first year setup for Halloween and this sounds like what I'm using. I'm using Falcon Pi Player on a Raspberry Pi connected to a Teensy 3.2/OctoWS2811. I'm currently waiting for my LEDs from Ray Wu. I've put a bit more information out here: https://github.com/ShadowLight8/fpp-...-serial-ws2813

I'll try to write up more and answer questions. I've been able to test my setup on the bench successfully

Here's what I've done so far for a bench test:

On the Teensy, I'm running the code I linked to above. The Teensy is connected to the OctoWS2811 adapter and I have a network cable plugged in which goes to a bread board with 2 Adafruit Neopixel rings. The OctoWS2811 also is connected to a 5v power supply and the Neopixel rings are connected to the same 5v source.

In Vixen, I've setup a Generic Serial with a bunch of channels. I've added a Generic Serial output with a header of <>.

To get things running, I start by powering up the Teensy first. That gets the Teensy running and allows the computer to see it as a USB Serial Port. Next, I start up Vixen. If you do these steps backward, Vixen may not see the serial port to send the data to. If things are working correctly, the led on the Teensy should be blinking kind of at random.

I've got part of my display up and running now with FPP, Teensy 3.2, and 300 WS2813s. It works great!! I updated the code for the Teensy on my Github page and am happy to answer questions about my setup.

Could this be modified to work with WS2812b LEDs? I am looking to get a Teensy for this year to run a strip of 700 or so LEDs.

Yup! The 2812b's and the 2813's use the same 800kHz data streams. More recent 2812b's have a longer latch time that older ones, 50ns vs 300ns. The 2813b's already have a 300ns latch time, so it should work just fine. The code I'm using on the Teensy 3.2 for my Halloween show is in the GitHub link above.

Perfect, I think I am going to move forward with using a Teensy for my project this year. Based on your screenshot you have the serial baud rate set at 115200, did you try bumping that up at all or was 115200 working fine for your setup? Thanks!

The quirky/awesome thing about the Teensy is that it is Serial over USB, so the baud rate doesn't matter. I just set it to 115200 since you have to set a value, but it still functions at ~11 MBit/s. The PJRC site has some more info about it here: https://www.pjrc.com/teensy/td_serial.html

Ah that makes sense. I know the Arduino is slower processor but I was thinking the next limit was the baud rate. Regardless I ordered a Teensy 3.2 today with the Octo2811 board. So I'll keep you posted on my progress once I get it. I will probably be looking at driving 350ish pixels on 2 channels. Thanks for you help so far.
