There's an upgrade to the PicKit2 that allows it to talk to many of the newer PICs. I think boyelroy11 wrote up a how-to on that a couple years ago. In involves updating the definition files -- and he provided the update along with it.

You also might try the PicKit2 standalone software -- you can find it here: It includes the update for the 16F1825 chip....

Nope you can do it w/ the Pickit2, you just have to replace the C:\Program Files (x86)\Microchip\PICkit 2 v2\PK2DeviceFile.dat w/ this one

It is geared to the PX-1, but it applies to programming the 16F1825 with a Pickit 2 in general.
